Begin your half-day adventure at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, an essential site providing deep insights into Rwanda's history and the 1994 genocide. Explore the memorial’s exhibits and learn about the resilience and recovery of the Rwandan people.

Next, head to Kimironko Market, a lively marketplace offering a vibrant mix of fresh produce, traditional crafts, and local goods. Immerse yourself in the bustling environment, interact with vendors, and experience the daily life of Kigali's residents.

Modern Kigali

Visit the Kigali Convention Center, a symbol of the city’s modern development. Admire the innovative architecture and enjoy a brief stroll around the center, reflecting on Kigali’s growth and future.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your guide and transferred to Ikaze BB in Kigali. After checking in and settling down, you will have the evening to relax and enjoy the local surroundings. This day will help you acclimatize to Rwanda, preparing you for the adventure ahead. Overnight at Ikaze BB in Kigali.

After breakfast, you will begin a full-day tour of Kigali. Key highlights include a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where you will gain deep insights into Rwanda’s history, the tragic 1994 genocide, and the country’s remarkable recovery. The tour continues to Kimironko Market, where you will experience the vibrant local market life and the various crafts available. Later, visit the Inema Art Center, showcasing contemporary Rwandan art, and engage with local artists to understand Rwanda’s evolving cultural scene. You will also have some free time to explore the city and do some shopping. Return to Ikaze BB for the night.

After breakfast, travel to Gisenyi (Rubavu), a town located on the shores of Lake Kivu. Upon arrival, enjoy a scenic boat trip on the lake, providing a unique view of the region and its biodiversity. Following the boat trip, embark on a Gisenyi city tour, where you will explore local markets, learn about the area’s history, and visit the town’s beautiful beaches. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Ubumwe Hotel Gisenyi.

Today, you begin your Congo Nile Trail trek with a journey overland to the village of Rwinyoni, located northwest of Lake Kivu. Along the way, you will enjoy the relaxing lakeshore scenery and learn about the local communities and their sustainable farming practices. After a short walk around Kimbiri village, you will explore the village’s surroundings and learn about its cultural significance. Dinner and overnight stay at Kimbiri Guest House.

The day begins with a 2-hour walk to Nkora, a traditional fishermen’s village where you will observe age-old fishing practices and gain insights into the fishing community’s way of life. Continuing your trek through the scenic landscapes of tea plantations and banana fields, you will reach Kinunu for lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit the Kinunu Coffee Washing Station, where you will learn about Rwanda’s coffee cultivation, the coffee-making process, and its importance to the local economy. Dinner and overnight stay at The Senators Guest House.

Today, you will embark on an 8-hour hike along the lakeside, where you will interact with local communities, learning about their agriculture, daily routines, and cultural traditions. During your hike, you will visit the Kinunu Catholic Church and stop for a picnic at Bwimana Musasa village. In the afternoon, a 4x4 vehicle will pick you up and transfer you to Congo Nile for an overnight stay. Dinner and overnight stay at Priest Guest House

Start your day early and embark on a 7-hour walk through the fields and villages of the region, interacting with the friendly local communities along the way. You will climb the trail to Rubengera Junction, where you will take public transport to Kibuye, marking the end of your 4-day trek along the Congo Nile Trail. Dinner and overnight stay at Home Saint Jean.

After breakfast, enjoy a boat trip around Lake Kivu to explore some of its islands. You will witness the unique lifestyle of the island communities, where herders guide their cattle across the lake. Each island you visit will have its own charm and beauty, offering opportunities to learn about local culture, conservation efforts, and the environmental challenges they face. After lunch in Kibuye, you will transfer back to Kigali for your overnight stay at Ikaze BB or another hotel of your choice.

On your final day, depending on your flight schedule, you may have some free time for last-minute shopping or relaxation in Kigali. You will then be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure, marking the end of your enriching 9-day journey along the Congo Nile Trail.
